Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway: Brenda Rothert’s Now Series

I don’t know what to say about these girls! Em and Layla drove me crazy more often than not, but I still loved them in the end! But first, here are the blurbs for the Now Series!

Now and Then by Brenda Rothert

Now Emmaline Carson is a sharp, settled graphic designer who loves painting, cooking and girls’ night out with her older sister Layla. But then – in the years before she went to art school in Paris – she was a shy, awkward teenager with frizzy hair, a flat chest and a massive crush on the boy across the street, Cole Marlowe. Too bad her incredibly hot neighbor only had eyes for Layla.

Cole is now a confident, laid-back attorney who’s even hotter than he used to be. He’s planning to stay single while working his way up the corporate ladder – until he’s knocked off course by a chance run-in with Emma.

Everything is different between Cole and Emma now. He finally sees her in a way she only dreamed of, and their hot chemistry is fueled by a growing friendship. But Emma’s deception of her sister – who wants Cole for herself – and the secret Cole’s been keeping for more than a decade threaten to tear apart what’s only just begun. Because sometimes the only thing standing in the way of now is then

My review

I really wanted to punch Em a few times! The younger sister who lives in the shadow of her sister, runs off to Paris for art school, finds her true self after a bit of sleeping around, then comes back home. She meets the boy she’s had a major crush on again and is so afraid he’d want her sister more than her, she makes it almost impossible for them to be together.

Then I figured we all tend to fall into awkward teenage mode when we run into a past flame, especially a crush of that level! I loved Cole in this book! You just have to fall for a man who works through all that weirdness with two sisters wanting him, insecurities, and having the woman you want ask you to hide your relationship. He’s one tough dude, and I loved the fact he knew when to give in.

Em grows up through this book. She discover what she wants and, more importantly, what she needs. I found it hard to relate with her at times because I trust people too much and too soon to properly show empathy for her apprehension. But seeing her turn from mousy and shy into an accomplished artist and a woman who is not afraid to go after what she wants was absolutely delightful.

Now and Again by Brenda Rothert

Once again, 26-year-old Layla Carson has the attention of a man eager to satisfy her. Ben Montrose, the hot, confident cop who gets off on frustrating her, is eager to show her just how arresting he can be. But as a reforming sexaholic, Layla’s sworn off casual hookups, and doesn’t miss the days of her early 20s –much.

Ben’s caught off-guard when the sexy, outspoken attorney turns him on and then turns him down. But the confident former Marine knows he can handle the simple seduction of a beautiful woman. He finds Layla’s weak spot – competition, which he happens to share – and challenges her to a game that could make them, or destroy them.

As they compete to crown the master of seduction, Ben and Layla discover there’s more to their game than power and foreplay. But as the stakes go up, they realize the game has changed, and they both stand to lose more than they bargained for.

My review

The never ending banter between Layla and Carson made me like book two in this series a whole lot more. Two strong individuals learning to let go and allow someone else to take control was fun to watch. If anyone ever had any doubt about Layla and Emmaline being related, you certainly feel it in this book. Layla is as quick to look down on herself and distrust the possibility of a great guy wanting her as her little sister.

Ben and Layla both have their issues, but again, the guy in the couple figures what’s going on faster. I loved this twist in Brenda’s books, we needed women who are clueless, not just men who need to learn to trust and have a relationship! What I did not like was how Cole appeared in this book. Understandable, but being so mean to Layla was a bit disappointing. I felt like taking him to a separate room to properly scold him.

The added thrill and threatening messages made the romance even better. There’s nothing like a mystery to spice up a love story between a lawyer and a policeman! But I won’t tell you more about that, I don’t want to spoil the fun for you. So grab a copy of these books and read on!
