Synopsis – Dusk to Dawn

Edi’s life is made up of precious moments.

That first encounter with Robert in rural Romania at eleven. A summer spent together in the same setting a year later. Their first text exchange in high school. The first sexual experience. The first heartbreak—the second and third and fourth chance. The point of total breakdown and the despair of failing. More love than anyone could have warned him about.

No matter how much time passes, no matter how different their paths, every meeting brings Edi and Robert closer together. Those stolen moments shine brighter than any. Yet loving Robert is not easy, not when Edi wants to be true to himself and is met with dishonesty. Or when Robert keeps parading new conquests and ignores Edi more often than not.

Edi has always loved Robert, but he must decide if his journey leads to or away from his childhood friend. Is it true love or is Edi just unable to let go?

Dawn to Dusk by Alina Popescu

I was a sucker for pain, wasn’t I? I looked at him, pressed against me in the crowded subway cart. His gaze didn’t falter, he looked back, a tiny smile curving up his lips, his body pushing closer at every opportunity.

I kept busy, revising all the vile things I’d ever seen. Dead animals, sick babies, naked old ladies, the ugliest of insects, decomposing bodies…. Damn! I so wished crime shows hadn’t completely desensitized me.

My master plan failed. Might have never stood a chance. By the time we made our way outside, I was so hard it hurt, which just made my anger at myself flare. We got off at the Semănătoarea station, even if Grozăvești was closer to the dorm I was living in.

Robert followed me in complete silence. He kept close, brushing his hand against mine every now and then. Just enough to remind me he was there and I couldn’t get away from him. Why couldn’t I? Hadn’t I had enough?

It wasn’t like I’d been celibate since the last time I’d seen him. I’d spent the rest of my summer before Uni fucking him out of my system. Victor and I had even gone on a trip together, which turned into a sex binge like no other.

Since getting comfortable with living in Bucharest, it hadn’t been that hard to meet other guys. More so since bartending at the club. I hadn’t fallen in love with anyone though. I blamed that for my current inability to shake Robert off.

“Here we are,” I said, when I reached the P5 dorm building.

Robert whistled and grinned. “Nice, you got the room with private bathrooms, right?”

“Yeah, that and the three roommates. Plus, it faces the street, so super quiet.”

He laughed and slapped my shoulder. “Seems like you’ve survived the noise this far. Besides, you live in Regie, next to Maxx. I am sure the noise from the club is worse than the traffic.”

I chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, their idea of soundproof does not match mine. And whatever they do, they can’t shut drunk students up when they pour out of the club and head back home.”

“So, are we going in, or are we going to stand here in front of the entrance forever?”

I grimaced and slumped my shoulders. “Fine, follow me.”
