Review: Memorizing You by Dan Skinner

I saw this book shortly after its release last year. I thought I might want to read it, but I knew, I knew from the title – Memorizing You – that I’d cry my eyes out. I then read the blurb and was even more convinced this story will indeed be unforgettable for me, but, again, it will make me love it just to break my heart in the worst way possible.

So I eventually bought the book, kept looking at it, afraid to open it. I later started reading, then stopped. I stopped because I knew the part I was dreading would soon follow. If there are any Friends fans here, I want to tell you I considered locking my kindle in the freezer forever. But this story is too beautiful to resist its pull, so I stopped being afraid and finished it. Before I tell you what I think, here is a little about it:

memorizing youSynopsis

Two high school boys from different walks of life: Ryan, a handsome athlete, and David, an average joe from a blue collar family, discover their desires, stealing their kisses under the cover of an old oak at night. Their love begins a secret life, hidden from their families, friends, and classmates. As their passion grows, so does the danger of their discovery. Their only hope is to create a separate world where every kiss is a treasure and every moment… memorable.

First love. Secret love. Unforgettable love.

My thoughts

Ryan and David will stay with me forever. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read. It is real, it is detailed, it gives you complete understanding of the world these two boys are living in. The supporting characters are colorful and memorable on their own, their friends, families, colleagues. Some you’ll love, some you’ll hate, some you’ll change your mind about later on.

The conflict is beautifully written, their reasons to hide and how they do it are fascinating. You root for these two from the start to the last page, and no matter how hard you try (and trust me I did), you just can’t walk away from this book, even if you know it’s going to break your heart.

I think the author should refund me for the tissues! I cried while reading it and I cried after finishing it and I don’t regret one single tear.

My advice to you? Get the book now and start reading!

The author should have bought shares in Kleenex the amount of tears that have been shed over this book. Mainly as it it just so beautiful!

Petra, I am pretty sure some of my favorite mm authors have shares in all the tissue companies! That’s the only way to explain it.
